CELEBRATING CENTENARY YEAR JULY 2023 - JULY 2024
A year-long program at the Kochu Guruvayoorappan temple premises in Matunga, Mumbai is being organized to celebrate 100 years of its functioning. This significant year of celebrations are marked by the temple premises being covered in festivities, traditions, devotions, and cultural extravaganza.

The most sacred festival of Shiva falls on the 14th night of the new moon, during the dark half of the lunar month of Phalguna. This falls some time between February and March. This night is Mahashivratri or the great night of Shiva. The day is often referred to as the day when Lord Shiva tied the holy knot with Lady Parvati, his better half. In Hindu mythology, it is said that Shiva represents the body, while Parvati, also known as Shakti, represents energy. Shiva is not just a God, he is the God of Gods, and the God of demons too, thus, praying to Shiva on this day, will bring good luck, and will keep troubles and problems at bay. One of the most important thing that happens on Mahashivratri is that the energy spikes are high, meaning if one stays up at night, keeping their spine vertical, it will lead to spiritual energy entering one’s crown chakra. Thus, leading to Nirvana. Devotees of Shiva stay awake the entire night on this auspicious night of Shivratri. Some perform poojas, chant Vedic mantras or Rudram, practice sadhana and meditation. These sacred practices bestow a sense of peace within us and oneness with the world. It is believed that praying on Shiva on this day of Mahashivratri will help rid of excess worries and will calm the individual, will be blessed by the cosmos itself: with benevolence and prosperity as Shiva is revered as Mahadev. Every Mahashivratri is meant to wake up every particle of your body. The festival is a wake-up call to move away from conflicts and move towards truth, beauty, peace, and benevolence - the ethereal qualities of Shiva.

On the sacred occassion of the Pran Pratishta Ceremony in Ayodhya, The Asthika Samaj will be lighting 10008 Diyas in the temple premise in front of the Lord Shree Ram Sannidhi on Monday, 22nd January 2024. Lighting diyas is an important hindu tradition and is considered auspicious as these lamps are meant to protect against bad spirits or negative energies and symbolise kindness and purity. It is symbolic of dispelling darkness, ignorance, and welcoming knowledge or enlightenment. You can now Book the diyas online.
